As educational outreach to the community, BASIC is producing a series of science futures reports—highlighting a technology or research area of importance—demonstrating the Bay Area’s excellence of today’s technology and providing insight into tomorrow’s innovative potential for that area of research.

Science and Innovation


Scientists at HP Labs in Palo Alto, California, have produced an an erbium disilicide conductive wire about 10 atoms wide on a silicon surface as shown in this scanning tunneling microscope image.
